I have had an Egg since '97 and will always have one or one like it by another manufacturer. There is no comparison to the flavor obtained from real lump charcoal and adding chips or chunks of other wood to enhance the flavor.

I have the BGE and like it for the most part. Easy to control temp and doesn't use much charcoal are my favorite attributes. Worst thing about it is the unvented cap that you use to kill the fire and to store before the next use. Somehow that thing gets stuck in place and is almost impossible to break it loose when you're ready to use it the next time.

I do this with my Weber kettle.
