So I'm admittedly a pretty casual Bond fan, so I'm curious as to the thoughts from someone that's more hardcore than I am. Is there anything specifically written that suggests it shouldn't be an European white male? I only ask because it'd be like having a black guy play Jon Snow when he's pretty clearly written as a white guy with dark hair (and physical attributes plays quite a bit into the series). I can get that criticism (and we all know Rush is just baiting people so I'll just ignore his opinion).
And are we taking into consideration that Fleming's source material is primarily from the 50s-60s so it's possible that the character can evolve from what he wrote at that point?

Elba just doesn't have the look that screams "spy" to me.

I'm not that hardcore but I do remember purist bond fans being upset blond haired blue eyed Daniel Craig was cast as Bond
If Rush did a similar show then I'll put him in then hardcore Bond fan group. Otherwise I'm inclined to believe his is just trolling.

I don't understand the question so I'll answer both possibilities.
Yes, the James Bond of Ian Fleming's novels is clearly a white male in his late 30's/early 40's.
As you indicated later, that's more a function of the time period in which the Fleming novels were written. Bond wasn't really defined by his whiteness (certain parts of Live and Let Die, book and movie, excepted)

There are a number of liberties taken with the original Hobbit and LotR books that I don't really care for but they still work. You're probably right about Rush baiting the same guppies, seems like about all he's good for these days.
