Which one is actually profitable? Oh, my bad, that doesn't matter to Communists.
Jesus Christ. The USPS had been profitable for decades (well, intentionally break-even), and would still be so if a certain group of people weren't hellbent on privatizing all the things.
You guys are propping up UPS and FedEx as heroes, and looking at the USPS as a taxpayer dollar money pit, but apparently have zero clue as to what's going on. Congress placed huge liabilities on the USPS that no other entity has to take on, and they also set the price of a stamp. How profitable would UPS and FedEx be if it literally took an act of Congress in order to increase revenue?
So once the dismantlement is complete, and the postal service is sold off, I can assure you that the congressionally mandated liabilities that are preventing the USPS from being self-sufficient will go away. Also, I'm pretty confident that UPS and FedEx (or whoever ends up with the old USPS) will end up getting some sort of government assistance in order to deliver to all of the unprofitable addresses that the USPS currently services.

quote:A rural delivery subsidy makes a lot more sense than an entire separate delivery service, IMO. You could split the budget of the USPS between those and broadband development grants and do a lot more good. It would also end third-class mail, which frankly should be done anyway. A ginormous portion of what USPS delivers goes straight into the trash.
