The powers that be in boxing killed the golden goose by not making the best fights when they needed to be made, while at the same time failing to recognize that UFC was emerging and winning new fans.
Boxing promoters greed did the sport in, I agree. UFC is one organization and runs everything. I know the smaller orgs have MMA too but nothing is on the level as UFC. That is why it is organized and flourishing. Boxing used to be like that until it split into 20 different entities. At any given time, you might have 6 "world champions" in the same weight class. IF UFC ever has internal greed to power struggles and starts to split then it could get messy.

to my point:
Below are amateur and professional boxing organizations, the sanctioning bodies of boxing that sponsor championship fights and award titles (belts). Some consider the World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Council (WBC) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) to be the only legitimate ones and refer to the others as alphabet soup (abbreviations of sanctioning bodies that have sprung up since the 1980s that award what serious boxing fans consider worthless titles.)
