re: Shooting steel through full choke/fixed full choke older guns

My understanding was that the fixed full choke may be an issue only due to a longer than normal taper for the choke. Since an interchangeable choke tapers over 3 inches or so vs the 26+ inches of barrel.
also since modern shot shells have thick plastic wads that encase the entire shot load, the bore is protected from any steel on steel damage and only the constriction at the choke is of concern.
So then I have to ask what shot will compress and what shot will not. Supposedly #4 or smaller has enough room to compress where as larger may or may not, but who knows.
I guess ultimately patterning my gun is the thing to do and not shoot full choke.
