Your sister sounds like an idiot. Mission work is stupid. Those folks in need would be a lot better off if the dumbass missionaries just sent the money overseas and stayed in America and worked.

I agree. Sad thing is, they'll be begging for money from here for the entirety of this ordeal. That's just not something I can get on board with.

I can't see how they can't do some actual work in the US, even if it means moving across the country. Plently of people could use things. If you provide to the people of little or no faith, wouldn't a little good will help to turn that around?

Not necessarily.

I definitely don't like the sleight of hand these missionaries use. They go to these third world countries with different cultures and different values, do something nice for them like build a school, improve sanitation or some other project, and then try to convince them that their culture is wrong and the missionaries' culture is right.

Typically, the missionary's culture is anglo-saxon, Western, and conservative.

They also use scare tactics to convince people to join their ways. You know, hell and such.

If missionaries were going over to do the projects, they would be doing the world a favor. Instead, they go there for a few years and leave with their "Get into Heaven" card.
