Braid: for long casts, lack of stretch helps setting the hook
Small diameter, heavier lb test and more of it on a spool
Lasts a long time, if you don't break off it lasts years
Cons: abrasion and cut resistance, expensive
I really only use braid anymore, although i do back my reels with mono
As far as casting, I use braid when surf fishing and fishing behind spillways, i can cast 50lb powerpro 100+ yards easily, with only an 8' rod and 1 3/8 oz spoons
