re: Greatest opening scene?

A lot of good ones in this thread. I saw a mention of The Godfather and I have to say that Bonasera's opening monologue is stunning in how it conveys the tone of the movie and the values of the family without even having seen any of the major characters yet:

Suspended sentence! They went free that very day! I stood in the courtroom like a fool, and those two bastards, they smiled at me. Then I said to my wife, "For justice, we must go to Don Corleone."
