I’m going to try to make this as rapid fire as possible because there’s a lot to cover. I waited until now because quite honestly things come in not when you ask for them but rather unexpectedly and they came in a torrent this morning. Word filtered in late last night from people at Virginia Tech who indicated that Hokie defensive coordinator Bud Foster had told them directly that he was not going anywhere. Foster will reportedly be getting between $800,000 and $1,000,000 annually but more importantly for him defensive line coach Charlie Wiles and outside linebackers’ coach Cornell Brown will be taken care of as well. Most coordinators prefer to have their assistants taken care of as part of any extensions and it looks like that this will be done. Foster reportedly has a habit of doing this…getting his name out there for jobs and then using that leverage to earn a raise for himself as well as whatever else he wants. Reportedly, the contract will come in hand this weekend and he is expected to sign it. Typically, even though things can change right up until that particular moment, once coaches get an agreement in principle they are done. Now, this all could be a smokecreen but odds are that it is not. Interestingly enough, on the Will Muschamp front it appears that South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier is not moving quickly on Muschamp (although people in the athletic department would like him to) and might not move on him at all if there are no staff changes. In the meantime, Auburn is pressing for a resolution by this weekend at the latest but the Tigers are also willing to pay him whatever he wants. Additionally, the situation has reportedly been complicated by the fact that he may be in the running for the vacancy at the University of Houston. In all likelihood, even if Muschamp balks at making a decision, Auburn will continue to wait him out.
