But the only way to get a new contract with more money and security is to perform and produce exceptionally well, especially when your existing contract is expiring, ala Ingram this year.

Thats still different than what you described. Les has a huge salary because he has won a shite ton of games.
He isn't even the second highest paid coach in the SEC. (That would be Kevin Sumlin who has 0 championships and has the same record we have this year)
