Miles was 28-21 over all and .550 in conference at Okla State.

It was a panic hire. LSU thought it could catch lighting in a bottle like the Saban hire.

What was ok st's record before miles? How about a year by year breakdown of his record there so we can see any patterns? I would say this is important information to consider before judging what kind of job he did there. I'll hang up and listen.

You know, I remember the day and where I was the moment that it was unofficially announced by Charles Hanagriff on the radio that Nick Saban was to be named the next coach for LSU, and I also remember why I was so ecstatic over the news, and it was because I saw him as the opposite of a polished politician, but rather an absolutely no nonsense football gurus who was being wasted in East Lansing. He was very highly respected by all his peers, and the biggest negative was simply how long he would be here before he bolted for the NFL. That was from day 1.

Fast forward to the day Les was hired, and there was absolutely NO such buzz at all. Matter of fact, the word out of OSU was they called him Les for a reason, and it was because we would get Less for it in passing.

As it turns out, it would seem there were no big secrets with either hire. Saban was as advertised, and so was Les. It's LSU that makes really good coaches great, just like at Alabama. The talent we have to pull from here is phenomenal to state the obvious. Both Saban and Les knew this, and did a great job at sealing up the state for the most part. Saban was just a better coach and turned what was pretty much poo poo when he took it over into an SEC Champ by year 2, and National Champ by year 4.
