I don't think they're intentionally wasting his talent, but I do think they're grossly mismanaging his growth. When you have a game as bad as Auburn, it is in their best interest and his to get him back out there in a limited capacity as soon as possible.

As a coach you can't just overlook bad play at any position with a highly recruited player sitting on the bench. They should just be upfront with him and tell him what they're doing. Explain the plan or at least why they still believe he's not ready yet to at least get a few snaps each game. Even Auburn has started letting Johnson get snaps at QB again.
