It's an idiot who throws things down from the upper part of the stadium. My brother was hit a few years ago by a cup throw from the upper part of the south end zone. But how its done isn't hard to figure out.

A cup that has ice in it, or is half full of liquid and thrown underhanded while using the thumb, and outside of the forefinger in a pinching technique on the lip of the cup. the room for doing this would almost have to come from an aisle, as proper follow through which allows the bottom of the cup to remain in a forward travel, and not spilling the contents until it makes contact.
