To be fair Rednecks were labeled as such originally because their necks were burned red from working in the fields. So my definition of a Redneck is someone who is usually hard working and know how to "make do". Sometimes this is synonymous with poor but often it is not.

A hillbilly, is associated with the crushing poverty of Appalachia and tend to have some but not all of the Redneck traits. (Think Billy Ray Cyrus).

White trash is simply a white person of any area that is shiftless, usually uneducated, and "common". They are usually involved in some minor criminal behavior and tend to live in constant chaos.

That being said, I am a redneck and damn proud of it!! Even if I hate NASCAR and Budweiser. But then I'm an educated redneck..

See page 148:

Mrs. Royall's "Southern Tour"

Is supposedly the first written reference to the term "Red Neck"
