Whacked some nice ones this weekend at the bend. I pretty much fish all year and do very little hunting anymore. I usually focus on perch/crappie/sacalait from October through early December then pretty much bass till February. look for activity on the surface if you see bass busting shad they are extremely active (for this time of year. the usual myth is that bass go deep during the winter but those fish will usually stage in schools in slightly deeper water and move up shallow to feed. one of the largest bass I have ever caught was dec 26th one year in 1 ft of water 11.86 and when I tell you where I am going to get the usual bullshite response from the central la anglers but it was at indian creek in 1994. on large waters you will also have the shad die off when the water temp gets in the low 40s. good electronics can find the bass school up in the deeper water and can make for an awesome trip vertical fishing spoons and tail spinners. one thing to note during the winter months, safety. I do get kinda lax wearing my kill switch and life jacket during the summer but during the winter a LJ and kill switch are mandatory as well as an auto pfd while fishing. also I keep an extra set of clothes in my boat for WHEN I go for a swim. there are usually a lot fewer boats on the water and I have went an entire weekend without seeing another boat on Toledo. good luck and tight lines
