The opening of the Evil Dead 2 is the way it is because Sam Rami couldn't get the rights to the original footage from the first movie, and he felt like he had to re-introduce the story since ED2 picks up right were the first one left off. So he just reshot it and put his own spin on it. I prefer 2.
