Bought my kid the Mossberg "510 mini" in 20ga for his first shotgun at age 7. He shot it for squirrel and ducks the last two years with no complaints even with 3".
Last Christmas I bought him a youth 870 in 20ga and he loves it. Even offered to buy him a semi-auto in 20ga and he said no thanks. He loves his 870.
