guerrilla groups like these thrive in such an environment.

Give me some evidence of guerrilla groups thriving in free societies.

So when will it be time to call for Muslim groups to better police themselves (or risk pushing the government to police them better)?

What are you even trying to say? What do you want to happen?

"Free" is irrelevant, it's the willingness to not point out the zealots, to not report them to the police, to not shout them down, to not call them out that helps them grow.

Either for the Muslim groups to better police themselves by overtly pushing out the radicals and/or reporting them to the police or begin the McCarthy-era style of blacklists. I would MUCH rather the former, but if they aren't going to take enough of a visible stance, then their silence only emboldens the zealots and causes the rest of society to call for the latter.

As more of these events happen and the Muslim community is ether silent or just phones in their stance against them and those that call for such events, anti-Muslim sentiment will continue to grow.

So is it time yet for Western Muslims start taking a more active role in wedding out the radicals or is it time for the rest of Western society to start painting them all with the same brush?
