Well the Special forces and CIA missed him in early 2002 and he slipped away. He did a damn good job hiding and the trail went cold. Then in either 07 or 08 they picked up the trail again. They were looking for one man that had an organization to help hide him in several countries. As far as giving credit, I do give Obama credit for making the easiest presidential choice since Truman decided to drop the A bombs on Japan.
