Do you know how many building designs were proposed in Dubai at one point? They're not being built because Dubai is an absolute sinkhole for money.
Just because something has been proposed in another country, doesn't mean we're behind. It means we have no need for outlandish designs and heights.
And the symbolic significance of the Freedom Tower is that it is 1776 feet tall, which I think is pretty awesome.
