its not like he wants to make a big announcement or anything. he just hasnt decided on one yet as far as everyone knows so we are all thinking that he will just tell us at the party. it would just be really crappy on my part if i didnt show and he picks me. which i will gladly be the best man.

Is everyone just ignoring the OP's additional comments about how he is just assuming that the groom will tell them who the best man is at the party? It sounds like this is just some fantasy that the OP has cooked up in his mind so that he can get a rose from the groom and prance around and gloat with it in front of his other friends to make them jealous.
The groom probably has no intention to make some big announcement at the party.
