And in 29 years, Blockbuster has been made completely obsolete. It's hard to believe how things change so relatively quick.

More like 10 years. I remember renting VHS tapes in the early 200s. DVD almost instantly, completely replaced them, but it didn't last long.
The "second choice" point is an excellent one, but the effect of not having a catalog of movies to choose from will be that a lot of classics are going to be forgotten. It's already happened to music.
