"Hits" in Soccer

I was just at the YMCA and I kept seeing kids doing slide tackles and even American football style"hits" where they would just collide into eachother where they both fall down. What is legal and what isnt? Can you push?

Not with your arms. You can body someone off the ball or shield the ball, though.

Slide tackles are a part of soccer.

Soccer is a collision sport. It happens all the time.

What you saw probably barely resembled actual soccer. I wouldn't draw too many conclusions about the game from that experience.

Depends on where and who you're playing. Teams like Stoke are allowed rugby tackles on occasion.

football hits... no; I coach youth soccer and teach the kids how to properly slide tackle
