Eh. I don't think it's a superficial complaint.
I just think the entire concept of the restaurant, including the complete disregard for making a name for themselves, is blah. The name is kinda blah. The food sounds kinda blah. The foot at LBT was DEFINITELY blah.
I wouldn't say that nothing could last there. I mean, look at Ruffinos. It is in a similar stretch of "nothing" and does fine. I just don't think Spice and LBT sound very good.. I can't really put my finger on it.
Like I said, they remind me of Portico.
BR is a really weird city as far as locations go. The location of Spice isn't really "the middle of nowhere", but people generally flock towards areas with tons of options nearby. Why that is? I have no idea. But it seems to be the case.
Kinda like that new Pats and how everyone keeps saying it is a bad location. Technically, it is only a mile or so from Towne Centre, but it is in a stretch that doesn't get restaurant traffic.

Maybe I just don't get how people shite on this restaurant or others without ever trying it. I guess it is the trend of foodies, BR diners, or this board at least.
Harping on the decor not matching the area is petty as can be. Saying the food sucked is one thing, but saying it needs to be more like Sammy's and Rotolo's (two places that get hammered regularly) is nonsense. Just a few months ago people were bitching about how BR is stagnant and no one does anything different. This place did it and gets criticized not for lacking, but for trying it in the first place.
