Do you people really think geoscientists only work in O&G?

My god. There are thousands of jobs throughout the country for geoscientists. I look at them weekly. Hell one could go make 80k/yr for the city of New York as a geoscientist, and they have multiple positions available. One could also go be a volcanologist in Hawaii for 72k/yr and they also have multiple slots to fill as well.

Point is, comparing the difference between Geoscientists and PETEs job outlook if the petroleum industry tanks is foolish.

No, but when the price of oil tanks for a period of time preventing new drilling, geologists are generally the first to get let go.
