You can contribute in the 1st 3 games of the season and still redshirt I believe.

If they still can go pro after 3, what's the point of having 5 years of eligibility without redshirting? You would be left wth 4th and 5th year scholarship players on the team, guys that aren't necessarily great players or NFL caliber guys, taking up most of the scholarships available and what not. You would have to go through and change the scholarship limits and roster #s.

And yea most college students go for longer than 4 years now.... But they aren't on full scholarship, which is for 4 years unless redshirted, injury RS, or gray shirted while on an athletic scholarship. And if you are on an academic scholarship, you have to maintain a certain GPA to keep that scholarship, which guarantees that they will graduate in 4 years.
