first time listening to it today and I have to say i'm pretty surprised. They reunited with ric ocasek (the cars frontman, blue album producer)
lonely girl
cleopatra
ain't got nobody live
was pretty skeptical with anything they were going to release, but this is much better than anything they've done since pinkerton. the lyrics are still a bit lacking, but the production and music are worlds better. the back to the shack song I could do without too.
thoughts?

I would say it's their best since Make Believe.

the thick fuzzed out songs are 100% ric ocasek's doing.

He's a badass.
Why did they dump him after the green album?

For the first time in over a decade i like at least half of the songs on the album. I had completely given up on them, which was hard because blue and Pinkerton are my favorite albums of all time. They were also the ones I listened to most growing up. While this album isn't necessarily great, I actually have hope that they may yet have the ability to make something great again. There seems to be some actual self awareness on many of the songs...although I did groan when I first heard back to the shack.

Weakest on the album.
The trilogy at the end is great though.
