Here's the unfortunate truth. He hasn't been the same guy the last 3 years. Last year, there were 25 guys ahead of him in GAA, and 45 guys ahead of him in save %. He was a great goaltender, but he's below average right now. He isn't coming back. I know he says he can help a team, and the question would be how? He can maybe mentor a younger goalkeeper, but at what cost? You have a bunch of guys that are ranked statistically ahead of him making $725k to $2M; he was making $5M last year. That's a shitload to pay a backup.
With the NHL Salary cap the way it is, I can't see a coach / GM wanting to pay him what he is used to getting paid.
Guy has made like $90M over the course of his career, but it's time to give it up.....
