You really can't prepare the players any more than they were to play a top-tier program. It's been said many times, but "Coaches coach, but players play". At some point they have to gain the maturity and discipline to handle the situation. They need to stop relying on just athletic ability and take the practices seriously. They were simply outclassed.

Question: How could the coaches make a clearly nervous QB stop throwing 5 feet above the players' head?

that's a hard thing to do because it is an easy fix, its just his fundamentals, which means he's just rushing himself. could be because he's rattled, too much adrenaline (first start), etc. basically he just needed to settle down and not rely so much on just his arm but use proper foot work.

most of the time this results when you think about what you are doing too much rather than just do what you have done so many times in practice and in games before.
