So which is it?

You took an observation, that by a three to one ratio people on this board seem to agree to, personalized it as an insult to you and yours, and proceeded to melt down for five pages.

Just accept it. Self-loathing in South Louisiana is like gumbo. It's ubiquitous. It's that need we have, mentioned in the OP, "to deny her neighbors in some way" that many of us have observed. It's a cultural trait. It's related to our French Catholic heritage. We see it. We recognize it in ourselves and in our neighbors. You don't. And for some, really ODD reason, it's EXTREMELY personal to you. You see it as an affront, as an attack, and you want to disparage me and my motives and make the topic go away. Which makes us think naturally, that you are one of those people who....well you know...
