Middle LB - What should we expect

It looks like there have been 3 prime areas of concern thus far on the 2014 team..
1) QB - Has been addressed.
2) Interior DT - Godchaux coming alone, Bain getting playing time, Herron looking to get time, and even Valentine may actually get cleared. We have 10 DT's on the roster, but the starters and depth thus far have been the worse since the late 90's duldrum days. We have what we have and it is now a matter of good fortune and playing the more skilled guys from this point onward.
3) Middle LB
Welter is a great kid with great character and said to be the leader to get people in the right place/call. Beckwith is much more athletic and skilled, but is said to not have the leadership and competency that Welter is credited to with the coaching.
I am wondering what people are thinking and expecting in terms of starting and playing time and variations.
The Mike is incredibly important against the spread. Poor angles and bad decisions and speed issues can result in long runs.
What are the rant-heads thinking about this area?

Welter in the middle majority of game

Maybe a little bit more 3-4 with bechwith at the other mlb spot. It would help with one less DT on the field and give us more athletes, we just need one if the linemen to get penetration to free up our talented LBs to mane the play. Adams will help a lot too in the secondary

Do people not realize that Welter was suspended for pretty much the entire 2012 season??
If Welter plays half the snaps, we are screwed.

Re watching the game from last year Welter was in on and made alot of plays. He was playing inside linebacker I believe. Should they move him back or is that the same position he has now?

Welter is the single reason we gave up that long run to sorry arse NMSU.

He just takes himself out of the play too often. What causes him to run up into the blockers instead of putting himself in the running lanes is beyond me. He may be intelligent and able to help others line up, but when it comes to that ability a good MLB must possess to meet the ball carrier in the hole, he just doesn't seem to have it. It is really frustrating to watch.

Ok what about the stats though, you know tackles and assisted tackles??
BTW Didn't welter have a fumble recovery?
Don't cherry pick stats sport.

We may play mustang packages on long 2nd and 3rd downs.
A traditional 3-4 on 1st down will not happen. For LSU that leaves an undersized DT at NG and two other DTs at DE. It takes LSU's DEs off the field or puts them at OLB. Good logic here. We cannot find two DTs so why not play three and take some of the best defenders off the field.
