See Chris Davenport for a 5* DT who never could contribute. The guy was so big in HS that no one could block him and he made great plays all the time. He gets to college and rarely sniffed the field because he couldn't just push guys around anymore and actually had to use technique. He never could get the technique so he moved to OL and then transferred to tulane.

Player lack development isn't so cut dry as bad recruit evaluation or bad coaching. It has to do with the kid's mental make up. Can he handle the pressure? Does he have the desire to work and learn so that he can be successful?

Ogeron always talks about breaking down the highly recruited guys, so they can know where they stand. Some will embrace the work others won't.

People complaining about depth can gladly blame Les and company for that. In 2012, they took 1, read that ONE DL recruit and he was a DE.

Yes, the departures have hurt, but to act like the coaches are blameless in the predicament is ridiculous.

Les and his recruiting strategy are mostly to blame for this mess.

For reference, MSU took the following number of DT's each recruiting cycle:

2010 = 2
2011 = 2
2012 = 3
2013 = 0
2014 = 1

They are going to suffer there in a couple of year with how they pulled a Les by not recruiting any in 2013 and only 1 in 2014.

How about Bama:
2010 = 2
2011 = 2
2012 = 5
2013 = 2
2014 = 4

So there you have it folks. Recruit consistently and have a consistently strong defensive line. LSU did not do that and for Bama this is just DT's and not even counting DE's.

In the end, recruit DT's every year and you'll have depth even with losses.

Ever since Ron cooper left, our defensive talent evaluation has sucked.

I'm tired of beating the players to death. The coaches? Garbage.

Gilmore was very productive in his what, 5 snaps? Play the guy more brick.

Beckwith is extremely productive, but chief needs three years to teach him how to line up in a 30 tech.

Cmon man!
