I know I'm so ambivilant about this protest because they aren't protesting the right thing. Of course no one denies the silly authoritarianism from Beijing is distasteful and will get violent if the resistance is strong enough. The issue is that democratic, self-governing regions have done terrible things to themselves and others. I'm not sure how much better a self-governing hong kong would be considering the protests are essentially slaves wanting a change in plantation ownership.
The real path to freedom is to dissolve the government and let people govern themselves. This is of course not an option, no election has the option of 'nobody'. The 'democratic' government of HK if formed would be just as violent and jackbooted when it demands 'protection money', which it calls taxes.
Ultimately, HK needs to get rid of all the rulers, not just the ones from Beijing if they truly want to be free.
