I knew he was into western boxing, but never heard much about his wrestling or judo. Also, the kicks that I've seen him throw in competition (the few that I've seen) look like he's hitting w/ his foot, not his shin.

I have never heard of him competing in any kind of grappling tournament.

ETA; No doubt he was ahead of his time. I was just commenting on his chances against today's MMA pros.

I tend to try to stay away from those arguments from people who don't train.

In Tao of Jeet Kune Do Bruce diagrams and explains the importance of wrestling and grappling and has a section with "jujitsu and judo" techniques.

He has clinch work, single and double leg takedowns, judo throws, and joint locks and chokes diagrammed in there.

He also studied fencing extensively. Dude got it. I doubt he ever competed in grappling, but he did armbar Kareem in a movie, and Judo Gene Lebell said he often trained at his gym in pure Judo and helped gene with demonstrations by shoulder throwing the much larger LeBell

I definitely understand that. Just for information's sake, I'm a brown belt in bjj (no gi) and have been training in mma for 9 years.

Wierd thing is, I'm JUST now getting into the gi.

Do you know if there are any stories about how good he was in the grappling game?
