My dad has always wanted one so I decided to look into getting him one for Christmas.

The only one I could find online was going for $24,000.

Anybody own one of these badass pieces of American military history?

Nope, I would LOVE to own the Browning BAR M1918, John Browning was way ahead of his time. I think the ammo was actually a little weaker than todays stuff. I heard you can't shoot todays ammo in the M1 Garands either, That's another I'd love to have, seen em for $1000 and up.

What exactly is an assault rifle?

ETA: Not going to be many of those out there. The military isn't as likely to let those got as they would be pistols or regular rifles. They weren't cheap.

Man I would love to have one of those things. I only have a WWII M-1 Carbine I got from my Grandfather who had it since the war.
