So why stop the clock at all if you're afraid of them getting the ball back?

To give you an opportunity to run one play?

Or, why not call the play without the timeout?

Who knows? Would you be less upset if they snapped the ball to run a screen with 0:03 and didn't call a TO?

The timeout makes no sense.

None.

Meh. While I agree it was a rather futile attempt...it wasn't entirely pointless.

It pretty much was. If you want to call one more play, even if it's just a screen pass - especially if it's just a screen pass - you'd want enough time to be able to call a TO if the play makes it into FG range, but not so much time that gives the other team an opportunity to score. 10-15 seconds would've at least made some sense.

Any of you who can't understand it was the old ' 80 yard screen to a running back for a score with no time left against 8 deep' don't understand Les Miles.
