We got a 10 month old German Shepherd Saturday. She was pretty beat up and really skinny. Took her to the vet yesterday for basically every test and shot. She sleeps outside on the back porch. Last night she was jumping at the door and whining all night. Is this a result of trauma basically at the vet? I can't keep her off the door and am thinking about a shock collar to teach her to stay off

ETA: She had hookworms and ear mites too. And Kennel cough

This is our 2nd dog in the last 6 months. I've never owned a dog before that. I have no idea what I'm doing.

Sounds like you need to learn how to take care of a dog.

Maybe I miss read, yal got her as a pup or she came to yal like that?

It was just one night dude. And yes, the shots and everything associated with the vet, coupled with her history, could make for an anxious night. Is she normally fine sleeping outside?

Don't run out and get a shock collar just yet. See how she does. And keep in mind that you could seriously frick her up with a shock collar if you don't know what you are doing.

Good job adopting that pup. I highly suggest you start reading up on German Shepherds. They can have several very strong drives to deal with. They need lots of exercise and focus.

Get her some toys, maybe a ball and play with her. She's going to work on that door until she can come in. IF she continues doing it after her adjustment, get an empty can or container and fill it with coins. When she jumps, open the door and rattle the can.
