I'm not going to defend the stupidity and illegalities that characterized the Vietnam War. The point is the stupidity and illegalities of fourteen years in Mesopotamia along with what should be very little national interest far outweigh the stupidity of Vietnam.
And by the way, it was only initially internationally decried by Marxists, so if you are one, I'll give you a pass.

We lost roughly 58,000 soldiers for an ultimately futile cause in Vietnam. Good luck arguing that was less of a waste than our current affairs in Mesopotamia.
Don't take that as a wholehearted endorsement of our activities in the latter, however.
