It's hard to say what band is the heaviest. Really just depends on what you find heavy. There have been some great suggestions so far.
I'll add Strapping Young Lad. Heavy for the sake of being heavy and poking fun at it. Massive wall of sound and a guy with a skullet screaming tongue and cheek lyrics.

I agree 100%. Sometimes I feel like I'm just a punk white boy cuz I don't dig on teh scream metal. I'm into the stoner/sludge feel rather than the shred metal. I like lyrics to be sang (or at least attempted at singing) rather than shouted or grunted. Lightnin' fast guitar playing is sick, obviously, but I can only listen to sweep picking for so long before I want to grab a shovel and smash the radio. Hard to call yourself a true 'metal' fan with those standards I realize but I can't change for nobody.
