Why wouldn't you buy a home in Thibodaux? With the Sunshine Bridge down to 1 lane, I don't see how you could ever expect to commute that far in under an hour. Heck, it takes an hour at times just to go from Gonzales to Donaldsonville.

1. Thibodaux has no redeemable qualities

2. The new home values are about 30-40% higher in Thibodaux. Comparable house can be found in Gonzales area. I'm just having difficulty finding the best bang for the buck. Too many damn neighborhoods popping up.

Rules for Ascension Parish:
1. EA school district will be the most affordable for comparable neighborhoods because it's the worst of the 3 public schools. As someone without kids, you shouldn't care.

2. Buying is waaaaaaaaaay easier than building

3. Don't buy anything built by DR Horton

4. Check your flood maps BEFORE you buy

5. Avoid Laurel Ridge

6. Decide if you want to live on the water or not.

7. Traffic will always suck on the following streets: Highway 30, 70, 73, 44 (particularly near 42), 42, and Old Perkins.

For you, if you can afford it, Pelican Point will offer the best neighborhood convenient to your commute. Diversion Canal is also great, but like Pelican Point, is expensive. Some other good options are: St. Amant around Highway 22 and Stringer Bridge Road, Some of the neighborhoods off of Burnside between Worthey and Airline, and some of the neighborhoods off of Purpera.

Some of the beautiful neighborhoods around Bluff Road and Old Perkins might be too out of the way for you.

Personally, I would just stick with Thibodaux. It's a fun town for its size and you wouldn't waste 2 hours + every day in your car going to and from work.
