I'm not inclined to take the pay cut at all but I'm certainly not trading the South for New York or the Left Coast AND taking a 40% bath.

I recently took almost a 40% paycut. I moved from Houston at about 90k to Bozeman, MT for just under 60k.
I couldn't be happier. Cost of living and quality of life can make-up for any pay decrease.
