Wife drives 2008 Ford Edge. 3.5l AWD. Transfer case was blowing oil out of the vent. Unserviceable unit. I removed the lower transmission mount and exhaust. Drilled 1/2" hole in a specified position. I'll send you a pic of where I drilled it later. There is a fill plug but no drain. Completely flushed out the oil which had became grease. Threaded the new hole and inserted a drain plug. Filled with Mobil 1 full synthetic 140 w 75. Issue fixed. All Edges, Explorers, Flexes and Taurus's have this same transfer case and are having major issues with them since the transfer case stays engaged all the time. When the sensors detect slip on a wheel the rear differential is locked in by a solenoid on the rear differential.

Most AWD systems will engage the transfer case when needed. The Ford units stay engaged all the time causing heat issues. Transfer case stays engaged, driveshaft spins all the time but the read dif. Stays unlocked unless told to lock by the PCM.
It's a fricked up design.
