Graphics card causing memory dump crash (options)

Here's what I'm thinking...since the card is in the mother board it will be better just to get a new laptop. I'm in the process of searching for $600-$1000 for better performance, and I think I may just pay someone $50 to install Linux on this one and use it strictly for simple browsing and documents.
Question is does everything I say seem like the right way to go?

What's the BSOD code/message? When does it happen (what applications/games, etc)? How do you know the video card is causing it? Have you checked temperatures during use before it crashes? What model/specs is the laptop? And if you just want to buy a new one because whatever, what do you intend to use it for?
