You're correct that an Uzi does not have an intense recoil. I fire one at our firing range all the time. Now I say that as a 44 yr old man that's been firing weapons on a regular basis since I was a kid. But I'm pretty sure a 9 yr old girl is going to have a far different perspective than I on the intensity of the recoil of an Uzi.

I'm wouldn't let my grown wife shoot a semi auto gun with more than one round in the magazine unless I'm 100% sure she can handle the recoil and is comfortable with the gun (as in she has shot the gun before).
I personally wouldn't just pick up an Uzi and hold down the trigger. I'm going to stick a round in it to get a feel for it. Then I'll add a few to get a short burst. Then if I feel comfortable, I'm going to let it rip.
I don't know what the experience level was before this happened so I won't judge. It's a terrible accident and I feel horrible for that girl.
