Darwin at work.
Only a moron arms a 9-year-old with an automatic weapon.

Let's assume for the sake of argument this is something you do want to do:
Every one of mine - and I've instructed them all - goes through a very specific training process.
First, we dry fire in a very safe environment. That gives you everything but the bang.
Second, when we go to the range the first time - I fire the weapon, to make certain everything is in correct working order.
Third, with a 9-year old, 19-year old or 90-year old - I would load A SINGLE ROUND and wrap myself around them to make certain they're holding the weapon correctly.
Fourth, coach the new firer through a single round fire.
At that point, I would probably load 2 or 3 rounds (if a semi) or a full cylinder and let the new firer empty a magazine, and safely clear the weapon.
Now, an additional step with an automatic weapon - load 2 or, perhaps, 3 rounds, so that, particularly a firer with no experience firing a weapon on automatic, gets to experience it without the risk of spraying a whole room (and me) with a full magazine. Then progress to 5, 6, and then a full magazine, if the firer is comfortable.
I would never load a full magazine and hand to a person who had never fired a fully automatic weapon before without going through these steps.
