The Sapranos crawls compared to the pace of Breaking Bad.

I don't know about that - I binge watched all of The Sopranos in Iraq - it had down patches, sure, but most story arcs paced pretty well. There were always twists, turns, reverses, and people getting whacked, it seemed.

BB - I had a hybrid experience, I binge watched to catch up, then watched the last (I think 1 1/2 or 2 seasons, just don't recall) - in real time as they aired.

BB had just a couple of down patches, but really accelerated at the end - which may give the subjective impression it was gangbusters from wire-to-wire.

The Wire had entire seasons that paced slowly (2, 4, 5) - but it didn't matter, because it was so good.

The Shield, likewise, had a couple of slow spots here and there - but had the highest highs and the lowest lows (for my money) as well as the best Pilot/Finale combo of all of them.

(And - for those of you who haven't seen my take on this - Clark Johnson directed the pilot and finale of both The Wire and The Shield. For you Wire fans, he was the editor with integrity in Season 5, and for Shield fans, he had a cameo as the federal marshall who takes Corinne and family into the witness protection program, so he directed himself in both series. I nominate him as the GOAT television director, purely based on his work in those 4 episodes.)
