You can do that or just let it float. Asus provides a discovery utility to find the DHCP-assigned IP address of the router.

I have the Asus N66U also and I can confirm the repeater mode works like a charm. Internet went out a couple of weeks ago. Turned my phone tether on and used the Asus utility to find the ip. A couple of mouse clicks later and the whole house was running off my phone 4g. I was like
