Both are actually very similar cities. Both developed a great deal after WWII, both were the same size around the 1850's, both grew due to oil, both are characterized by massive sprawl and both have major Hispanic populations. I really dislike Houston due to it's sprawl, and I dislike Los Angeles for the same reason.

True, but you should mention that Los Angeles proper had 1 million 40 years before Houston proper, and basically 2 million 50 years before Houston did...

Oil is the only reason for Houston's existence

it's far from the only reason for L.A., or even the main reason
