It's the Wahhabist movement within Islam. It's conservative, strict interpretation Islam that leads to this violence. It is a very strong minority of Islam, comprising anywhere from 15-40% of all Muslims.
If this is accurate, the entire," it's only a tiny minority of Muslims" meme is blown out of the water!
Especially when one considers that 1.6 Billion of the worlds population is Muslim.

Only a tiny minority of Muslims are actually themselves violent. But a large significant minority (the 15-40%) of all Muslims are ideologically supportive of the religious violence, at least to some degree. Their teachings and how it is interpreted by them supports it.

Even 15% of 1.6 Billion is lots of people!

Yes we went through the Age of Enlightenment in the West. Science and reason became the prevailing way to truth, humanism and democracy and liberty became the law of the land.
Christianity was reconciled with this. It was quite easy, when you consider Jesus's New Testament message of tolerance, love, and forgiveness. Because of widespread modern interpetation of Jesus (or reform Judaism in the case of Jews), it's quite possible to live in our scientific, humanistic world and still be a Christian or Jew.
This is not possible in conservative Islam. The text is clear, and it all deals with the barbarian desert religious tribalism that was applicable at the time. There's no New Testament to wipe the slate clean, and the clarity of Muhammad's message (as opposed to the ambiguity of the Bible or Torah) makes modern reform unacceptable to many.

Long story short - Islam in its strict interpretation, is inherently violent, fascist, and oppressive in ways that other religions including Christianity are not.
And we need to recognize that - we need to make the modern Muslim leaders admit that - and stop worrying about it being perceived as bigotry

You do that by killing muslims until the non violent mislims get it. Their religion is outdated and con not exist in a modern society.

How can we make the modern Muslim leaders admit something our own leaders won't dare say?

If their real goal is global jihad, we might not have a choice?

I think that if you begin killing Muslims simply because they are Muslims, the odds are the non-violent ones will become violent. And where would we start? How about with the Muslims in the US now? Just think of the attention we'd get by whacking Kareem Abdul Jabbar or Muhammed Ali.
