I always release fish when I know I don't time to clean. A family situation came up. I never keep fish if I don't intend to cook them before freezing.

Probably could have cleaned them in the time its taking to post. That said, I often keep fish from Friday to Sunday then clean at once. A few times from Thursday. No problem. I don't drain the water though...a slurry keeps them super cold.
Am I doing it wrong?

If iced properly and drained daily, they will last at least 7-10 days.
